Surrounded by the country's most pristine rivers, lakes and streams, this area offers the fly angler the opportunity to put their skills to the test against lake fish that are cruising the shore to twigging the many small alpine streams. All this while enjoying some of the most breathtaking scenery.
We offer day trips in a range of settings, whether it's the fast flowing Thredbo River, weaving through scenic bushland, or the magnificent Lake Jindabyne with its still and glassy waters and abundance of fish. This is Australian fly fishing at its best!
If you have ever wanted to try fly fishing but thought it's too difficult – don't despair, we strive to teach the art of casting and fishing in a relaxed and friendly environment. We cater from the beginner to the advanced and by the end of your trip, you’ll be “loading the rod, casting and drifting” like a pro.
Don’t worry, we’ll teach you the lingo too!
Our head guide, Craig Daly, has certification as a Fly Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers.
Rivers and streams are open from the October long weekend and close on the June long weekend.

I had my introduction to fly fishing through a Fly Fishing Expo at Thredbo. After the introduction I booked a half day guide with Clearwater Fly Fishing Guides where I learnt so much about casting, reading the water and tips and techniques about the craft of fly fishing. I throughly enjoyed my time on the river with Daf, His knowledge of Fly fishing, and the local area will leave you wanting to come back for more. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him, as you will learn everything you need to know about fishing the alpine waters and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.
Daf has been my guide in the Snowy Mountains for almost 25 years and I still look forward to the next trip as if it’s my very first. Not only has he taken my fly fishing to the next level but each expedition is carefully thought out & his knowledge of the rivers & local activity means we’re fishing virgin water every time. For me it’s as much about the high country experience as the fishing itself and each day on the river with Daf is truly memorable, regardless of the fish count. That said, he has an eagle eye and uncanny ability to put me over fish in spots that I never expected, even today as a more experienced fly fisherman. I’ve lost count of the trophy browns we’ve caught & released together on the Thredbo River but each one has been pure magic. Over the years as my mobility and eyesight have made fly fishing more of a challenge Daf has been able to adapt his guiding to ensure the experience is every bit as enjoyable as the early days. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
Could not be happier with our day out. Super fun, great scenery and most importantly lots of fish.
It is very clear that Craig is extremely in tune with the area he guides in. He was able to put us onto fish and teach us many new techniques.
Fantastic experience. Daf is a great teacher and a passionate guide! Only reel problem is that now I'm hooked and have to spend all this money on fly fishing!
Many thanks Craig for your time and patience last week. I really enjoyed the lesson and it was then great to take the theory out onto the water the following day. You’re a lucky man to work in such a stunning part of our country - and good of you to share your insights (and humour) with me! All the best. Stephen
Have not been on the water for 5 years, was a great refresher and caught two great trout
